Introduction

Hi there, I’m Scavello. I’ve been a maker most of my life, working with 3D printers, laser cutters, wood tools, arduinos, raspberry pis, computers, home lab servers, programming, prop making, table top terrain, chainmail, pixel art, and probably a bunch of other stuff I’m forgetting as well.

This is a place for me document some of my projects and hopefully help out some other people with things that I’ve learned from various mistakes I’ve made, and the googling that followed there after.

A few things you can expect to see in the little while:
– QT Py Based personal alert device (Trials and Tribulations of ADC)
– Home Assistant attempts
– Linux Server admin grief
– RP2040 keypad build
– some light accessibility device builds (I have “arm control nerve” issues)
– probably some bitching about ransomware

A bit about myself, I’ve been messing with computers since I was quite wee, and that was mostly with a Commodore 64. From there I upgraded to a 386 with 66Mhz and it’s own 144mb hard drive! Upon which my sole purpose was to play Wolfenstein 3D. That never actually happened, and I went straight to DOOM. From there it was a constant stream of games going into and out of this little family computer. Trading with friends to get new games, christmas gifs of new games, etc.

This was until a friend of mine showed me the fancy things he was doing in QBasic. Now I was onto something. I began messing around making terrible text based adventure games that always started with the same randomly generated rain like effects we he showed me how to make. From there I moved up into Visual Basic, and made a VERY short Dragon Warrior 1 knock off. Cliff notes I went to college and learned Java and PHP, now I was learning REAL programming languages, they also taught me Linux, MySQL, tried to teach me ASP.NET but I wasn’t about that. Since then I’ve been dipping my toes into electronics and open source hardware such as Arduino’s and Raspberry Pi’s of all flavours and varieties, and have been enjoying myself quite a bit. Recently, I realized I was learning a fair amount and should probably start documenting some of this to try and help others. So I started this blog. Hope you enjoy it, or it at least helps you a bit on your journey.

Thanks!

–Scavello
